How the civil war people used there money to get clothes and food and only two people were designed to the money they were james b. longracre and Christian Gobrecht.Northern one cent piece the union one cent peiece or the penny as it was know was referred to as the the Indian head cent it was designed by James b . Anacreon in 1859 and remained in use untl 1990 when the Lincoln cent.Then people like the goverment would hide it for the confracy so that the confederacy would by whatever they like to get so the us goverment hid it from the United States so the only famous people who found there own money either by minting it or printing it and those people who found more info than anybody who made their own money both men were interested in finding money or making their own money.

Longracre in 1864 and is the only coin to begin existance during the civil war . This was also the first coin to have in God we trust on it was discontiuedin 1874. Northern three cent piece The three cent coin nickname the trime there were actually two types of three cent pieces the first were minted using silver (1851-1873)but as that metal became more valuable and people began melting the coins down for the value of the metal the newer coins were made from nickel this was also designed by James B. Longracre .Northern 5 cent piece The five cent piece was known as the half dime instead of the nickel at this point as it was made from silver not nickel this coin was desghned by Christian Gobrecht and was in circulation from (1837- 1873).
